March 2007 “My Montessori School” would like to send a warm welcome out to our new students. We know that they will truly enjoy their Montessori education. We look forward to seeing each of our new friends. The children at the school have been very busy. We have planted our own little window herb garden and the children are anxiously awaiting the seeds to sprout. When the weather cooperates the children have been going outside in the playground. They have worked hard building a snow castle, snow angels and a snow mountain. I have worked hard on shoveling the hill after each snow storm so the children can still go sledding. While outside we have gone for listening walks in the back yard and heard a variety of birds singing. The children have enjoyed finding and examining various animal foot prints in the snow such as deer, rabbit and mouse. During the days that it is too bitterly cold to go outside the children enjoy the gross motor activities such as the small climber, yoga and ride on toys. We are all looking forward to spring and milder weather. The toddler children have been working hard on pouring rice from one jug to another and spooning split peas from one bowl to another. The toddler children have also been working hard on their personal care activities such as proper hand washing and dressing and undressing all those winter clothes. The Casa children have been working on the cursive sandpaper letters and learning how to write in cursive on the chalk board. They are also working hard with the dressing frames, especially the bow tying frame. The Casa children love helping the toddlers by modeling appropriate behavior during school. We, at My Montessori School are looking forward to participating in the first Celebrate Havelock event on Saturday May 12, 2007 at the Havelock-Belmont-Methuen Community Center. It is an excellent opportunity for the community to get together and to celebrate the diversity of the local businesses and community organizations in the area. My Montessori School will be setting up a booth with activities for the children and information to parents regarding Montessori Education. We hope that everyone has a safe and happy March Break! Yours in teaching, Katie
